A Brief Conversation w/ Voyage Dallas
Hi Vega, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I got my start in music at an early age and fell in love with the science of audio. Over time I started working in various audio-related spaces until I found myself doing some acting in films. I really loved the working dynamic I saw on the crew side bringing the production together and as soon as I had my first opportunity to make my own film I did. I wrote “The Hurt We Share in October 2019” and by February we were already casting. It was incredible. Now I take a ton of pride in being a Dominican American Writer, Director, and Sound Designer & Mixer for films.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Every journey has its struggles so I’d be lying if I said I had none. When working with teams one constant struggle anyone will face comes from the different dynamics of every person on the team. Sometimes you build a team and every member stays along for the whole ride but more often than not you lose a few people along the way. That has always been very difficult for me to deal with but it presented itself most in the filmmaking space because it’s so heavily team-based. The more time you spend on set*, especially when you’re* traveling for work, the more like family the people you work with become. However, like most families, everything won’t always be easygoing. Learning to deal with the constant flow of relationship building has definitely been the hardest part.
